Absolute Zero is the most ambitious target for the data center industry, and the only one to not require carbon offsets

Data Centers consume the power delivered by the grid, with the carbon content given by the local power generation. Like many other industries, data center companies compensate the direct and indirect GHG emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat or cooling (Scope 2 emissions), by acquiring traditional offsets or credits.

These commitments orient the economy toward a sustainable energy future, and net zero is a step in the right direction. However, offsets or credits changes do not reduce the actual emissions from the operation of a company.

Net zero is done by taking credit for carbon reductions, under the assumption that the reduction would not have happened otherwise (additionality assumptions).

Absolute Zero designs aim to eliminate or physically remove (Carbon Removal) the GHG emission from the atmosphere throughout the data center life-cycle operations

Absolute Zero goal means eliminating carbon emissions from our operations or physically removing the GHG emission from the atmosphere.

With Absolute zero, no GHG emissions will be added to the atmosphere, and this can be physically verified.
